 Alan Mathison Turing

Alan Turing, born June 23, 1912, was a British mathematician, logician, and cryptographer who contributed to various scientific fields, primarily computing and artificial intelligence.

He played an important role during World War II because he broke the code of the German Enigma cryptography machine to protect "Bombe", a machine that rapidly analyzed different Enigma configurations. It is possible that the allies obtain information on the German military plans, reducing the days of war and saving countless lives.

After the war, Turing concentrated on the development of the theory of computing. I present the concept of "universal machine" that changed its name to "Turing machine". This machine paved the way for modern computers, proving that any machine, with the correct instructions, could perform any algorithmic task, giving rise to programmable computers.

In 1950, Alan Turing developed an idea of "Turing test", which was used to assess a machine's intelligence and was a basis for artificial intelligence. Despite all his contributions to science, in 1952 Turing was arrested and accused of "indecent assault" due to his homosexuality, which was considered a crime in the United Kingdom at the time. I was subjected to chemical castration to avoid imprisonment, or that caused serious physical and mental sequelae.

Alan Turing, died in June 1954, aged 41 and the true causes of his death are still debated. In 2013, the United Kingdom, led by Queen Elizabeth II, officially apologized for the persecution of Turing for his sexual orientation and was unfortunately forgiven. Turing's legacy lives on today, his innovations in artificial intelligence and computation assisting modern technology and he is named as a scientific hero who reminds us of the importance of protecting human rights and respecting different individuals.
